IndiBlock Stars 2022-23
Indirock's first bouldering competition!

What's it all about?

Basics

  • The competition runs October 2022 – March 2023
  • 5 rounds over 5 months
  • On the first Monday of each month, an IndiBlock Stars set will be added across all climbing zones
  • All blocs will be in white holds with blue tags, numbered 1-25
  • The grades will start around V0 and go up to V8-9 as the numbers get higher
  • Climbers will have one week to attempt as many boulders as they can

Categories

  • Adults
    • Identify as MALE
    • Identify as FEMALE
    • Identify as NON-BINARY
  • Under 18

Scoring

  • Score cards will cost £2
  • Scoring system:
    • First go (“flash”) – 10 points
    • Second go – 7 points
    • Third go – 4 points
    • Fourth go or more (or returning to a block on a new day) – 1 point
  • Because people will have a week to make as many attempts as possible, we will need to control the fact that muscles are fresh each time you come back to climb
  • Therefore if you’ve attempted a bloc even once, if you return to it on a new day the maximum score you can get for that bloc is 1 point
  • Any blocs which you haven’t attempted before will have the normal scoring system applied

Winning

  • Small prizes will be given away for winners in each category for each round
  • After the five rounds, we will hold a big finals event on Saturday 4th March 2023
  • In order to be considered for the final, competitors must have entered at least 3 rounds
  • If competitors enter all 5 rounds, the best 3 scores will be taken into account
  • Because it will be difficult to create a level playing field, the paraclimber category will be focussed on personal growth over comparison with others in that category. Prizes will be given based on personal improvement in climbing grade over the course of IndiBlock Stars, rather than outright strongest climbers in the paraclimber category

Finals

  • Categories for the finals will be:
    • Adult MALE
    • Adult FEMALE
    • Under 18 COMBINED
  • There will be 5 competitors in each category
  • We’re not sure how many non-binary competitors we will have which enter three rounds or more. Non-binary climbers will therefore either be invited to pick a category to join for the finals, or prizes will be awarded the same as for the paraclimber category
  • The finals will take place on Saturday 4th March 2023
  • Each category will climb three problems
  • Competitors will have 3 minutes to climb each boulder problem
  • An Isolation Zone will be created adjacent to the training board area
  • We will start with the under 18 combined category at c. 11am
  • The adult categories will start at c. 4pm

Prizes

  • Small prizes will be awarded after every round of the competition
  • At the end of the competition, prizes will be awarded for climbers showing the most improvement over the competition, as well as for the strongest climbers which win gold, silver and bronze in the finals
  • Prizes for the most improved will be awarded on podiums like the other finalist winners
  • Watch this space for details of prizes to be won!

After the finals

  • The finals problems will stay as they are until the following Monday, so everyone can make attempts and get great videos on Sunday 5th March
