Indirock was founded in 2019 by local couple, Gordon and Emily. With no experience of setting up bouldering walls, just a whole heap of vision and ambition, they pulled their sleeves up and got stuck in!
Gordon stuck to his day job while Emily devoted every hour of every day to making things happen. She fell pregnant along the way but that didn’t stop her – the launch date was planned for summer 2020, just as baby was due. But then the Pandemic struck!
Two years of delays, stress and struggles ensued but eventually, in March 2022, Indirock opened its doors. We are eternally grateful to the many people who contributed to our Crowdfunder, opened doors, gave us advice and words of encouragement along the way. We couldn’t have done it without you!
In 2025 we brought our amazing team together to update our vision for Southend, and plan how Indirock will play a part in bringing it to fruition. Here is our new vision:
“We envision Southend city centre being like a living art gallery. Street art is covering buildings, and greenery brings everything to life while giving residents a sense of wellbeing. The high street is bustling with unique independent businesses, and people travel from far and wide to visit Southend’s vibrant spaces and year-round calendar of events.
The streets of Southend feel safe and the people are happy and well, with all cultures and ages mixing freely. There is less divide between “haves” and “have nots” and everyone has the opportunity to make a good life for themselves.”
Bouldering is supposed to be about fun, an amazing community and setting your own goals. If it ever stops feeling fun, something needs to change!
