This year marked a big change for Indirock and an exciting one! We’re thrilled to officially welcome Jack Thomas as our new Head Routesetter!
Jack comes from an interesting point of view. He’s been setting alongside Jakub on the mats, but also working front of house and coaching at Indirock. Which means…he knows you guys! He understands what our community loves, what challenges you, and how to craft the best possible climbing experience from both sides of the wall.
Now, if you’ve ever thought that being a head routesetter just means telling people to move a foothold 3cm to the right, think again. The role goes far beyond tweaking holds. A head routesetter is the person on the mats with a vision. Someone shaping not just the climbs, but the standards, flow, and feel of the entire gym.
Jack has stepped into this role with a thoughtful and creative approach. He described his experience so far as challenging and rewarding, explaining:
“I want everyone who comes in to feel welcome but also appropriately challenged and guided where they need to be. Every week brings something new, and I really enjoy finding a way to bring that feeling back to our climbers.”
It’s clear that for Jack, routesetting is more than just creating problems on the wall. It’s about building an experience. Each new set brings a chance to inspire, test, and connect with the Indirock community in new ways.
We’re so excited to see how Jack continues to lead and evolve our setting team, bringing fresh energy, creativity, and thoughtful challenge to every session.
