16 Feb What to expect from Indirock’s first competition finals
The finals of IndiBlock Stars, Indirock’s first climbing competition, take place on Saturday 4th March and if you want to see some mind-blowing climbing this is not to be missed.
Indirock turns one in March and this event kicks off our first birthday celebrations. We’ll have a DJ, sponsorship from Tenzing (plant based and sustainable energy drink) and party food and drinks until late. Here’s what to expect from the day!
What to expect
From 8am on Saturday 4th March we’ll have top routesetters throwing up some of the best boulder problems that Indirock has seen to date. They’ll be working in secret behind curtains all day, so nobody can see them until the competition starts!
From 5:30pm the event will start, and only those who have booked in advance will be admitted (booking is free, head here to book!). We’ll have a DJ spinning tunes and a party menu including special competition cocktails.
Sometime between 6-7pm the climbing will commence. 10 of South Essex’s best climbers will be competing, each with four boulder “problems” to complete in just 4 minutes each.
Indirock’s MC will guide the audience through the problems and what to look out for from each climber. It’s set to be an inspiring performance for all to enjoy, whether you’re a beginner, advanced or never climbed before!
The competition climbing will finish around 8pm, when prizes will be distributed across all categories, including the “most improved” climbers who didn’t make the finals.
After prizes, the competition problems will be open to all to try, if you think you’re hard enough! These will look spectacular, displaying a brand new selection of colourful competition holds which will look immense for everyone’s social media videos.
Finalist Adam Snow says:
"I've been climbing for around 6 years now and my goal this year is to make a mark on the competition scene, perhaps even aiming for Team GB. I'm glad that Indirock brought bouldering to Southend, as I used to have to travel at least an hour for my training. I'm stoked to be in the IndiBlock Stars finals and am going for gold!"
If you do decide to visit Indirock to climb during the day on Saturday 4th, be aware that half of the climbing zones will be closed for the finals routesetting all day. Indirock will be giving everyone off-peak entry prices to acknowledge this.
The competition blocs will remain up without any in-filling for the whole of Sunday 5th, so come along for your own experience of competition climbing. We will then start infilling around the comp blocs on Monday 6th, with more added on Monday 13th March.
The event is free to watch but to manage capacity, booking is essential.
Indirock is Essex’s biggest bouldering wall, offering top quality indoor rock climbing for all ages. We offer bouldering courses in Essex and also have a great coffee shop on Southend high street!
