Team BG climbers at Paris Olympics 2024

Team GB climbers take the Olympics stage by storm

After a week on the edge of our seats, screening every moment of the Olympics climbing here at Indirock, we want to celebrate the amazing achievements of our incredible Team GB climbers who competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics!

After just one phenomenal British climber – @shaunacoxsey – made it through to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, it was amazing to see this quadruple to four British athletes at Paris 2024:

🇬🇧 @erinmcbeast
🇬🇧 @hamish_mcarthur
🇬🇧 @toby_climbing

Not only that – three of them made it into the finals, and one only went and won gold!!!

The standout performance came from 19-year-old Toby Roberts, who came out of nowhere to win the gold medal in the combined Bouldering and Lead Climbing. His extraordinary skill and composure, despite his young age, secured him a place in Olympic history. Roberts’ victory was the highlight of a spectacular showing by Team GB.

On the women’s side, Molly Thompson-Smith and Erin McNeice displayed remarkable tenacity. Thompson-Smith, a seasoned competitor, and McNiece, a rising star, both impressed with their performances, with Erin finishing in fifth place in the final. Hamish McArthur also showcased incredible strength and stamina, coming out in fifth place. It seems we’re on track for more medals at the next Olympics in LA!

We are also excited to see Para-climbing debut at the Paralympics in LA 2028. There is much to look forward to for the climbing community.

The UK was the only country to have three competitors go through to the combined boulder and lead climbing final, proving that British climbing is a force to be reckoned with.

This success at Paris 2024 not only highlights the athletes’ hard work but also the growing prominence of climbing in the UK. Congratulations to every one of this year’s Olympians – we’re already meeting new visitors to Indirock who have been inspired by this year’s climbing performances. We’re excited to grow the next generation of Olympians here in Southend-on-Sea!
