We’re growing our routesetting team!
We’re looking for two new routesetters to join the Indirock team — and you don’t need years of commercial setting experience to apply.
We know that routesetting teams across the climbing industry don’t always reflect the diversity of the people climbing on the walls. We want to play our part in changing that, so we’re particularly keen to hear from women and gender non-conforming climbers who’d like to develop their routesetting skills with us.
The roles
We’re recruiting for two positions:
🧗 In-house Routesetter
For someone who already has some routesetting experience and is ready to develop further in a commercial environment. You don’t need to be a highly experienced commercial setter — minimal commercial routesetting experience is absolutely fine.
🌱 Trainee Routesetter
For someone who’s excited about routesetting but hasn’t had the opportunity to try it yet. No previous routesetting experience is necessary. We’ll support you to learn on the job alongside our existing team.
Both roles are for one day a week, on Mondays, and will initially be for three months. There is the possibility of extending the contracts beyond this period.
What does routesetting at Indirock look like?
At Indirock, we’ve always believed that great routesetting isn’t just about creating the hardest or most technical boulders.
Inclusivity is at the heart of how we set.
We want our walls to offer something for everyone — different bodies, heights, strengths, abilities and climbing styles. That means prioritising fun, inventive and interesting boulders, rather than assuming that bigger moves or more strength automatically make for better climbing.
We’re looking for people who are excited by that approach: people who want to experiment, learn, get creative and think about the experience of the whole climbing community.
You don’t need to climb the hardest grades in the centre. You don’t need to fit the traditional image of a routesetter. And for the trainee role, you don’t need to have set a boulder before.
You just need a love of climbing, plenty of ideas and an enthusiasm for making climbing fun and accessible to more people.
Interested?
If you’ve thought about routesetting before but wondered whether you had enough experience to apply, this is your sign to give it a go.
We’d particularly love to hear from women and gender non-conforming climbers, and we welcome applications from people from all backgrounds.
Just email us on hello@indirock.co.uk with the subject line “Routesetting Position” and include a little bit about which role you’re interested in and why, and we can send you more info!
