Everyone Health wellbeing climbing programme at Indirock

Indirock and Everyone Health getting Southend climbing to health

There’s never a bad time to concentrate on your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, and now there’s even less of an excuse as Indirock and Everyone Health are working in partnership to provide accessible sessions for those wanting to take positive steps towards a healthy lifestyle, while having fun!

Southend’s level of health is low compared to the rest of the UK, but many paths to health and wellbeing can be intimidating. Not everyone feels comfortable in a leisure centre or gym. And cost can often be a barrier.

We’ve ensured Indirock is a welcoming venue and it has been designed to be accessible to all. Climbers include toddlers, after-school-clubbers, seasoned climbers all the way through to customers in their 70’s.

That’s why we’re working in partnership with Everyone Health to provide an accessible programme for those wanting to get their health and wellbeing back on track; while enjoying the social side of climbing at the same time.

"I was really impressed with myself that I was able to do it and I enjoyed it."

Rock-climbing is truly an exercise in disguise and Amy Young, Service Manager of Everyone Health Southend can attest to this: “Working in collaboration with Indirock has been very exciting for us. It has been great to be able to use local Southend assets to offer a new spin on our weight management programme locally. It really is a fun and enjoyable way to get active, you won’t even realise you’re working out!”

Climbing offers great exercise combined with a social experience.

  • Physically, climbing can burn hundreds of calories per hour, as well as strengthening the core, encouraging stretching and increasing flexibility and agility.
  • Mentally, climbing is great for mindfulness, concentration, focus and many climbers say they think of nothing else but their next move when they are bouldering.

Climbing is a great workout, engages your body and your mind and will make you many new friends!

Indirock’s wellbeing programme with Everyone Health invites anyone who wants to get their health back on track, to experience climbing in a low pressure environment for just £2/session. Indirock instructors will be there to offer advice, demonstrate techniques and introduce you to their friendly community.

Emily Vermont, founder of Indirock has said: “We’re so happy to be partnering with Everyone Health again in the New Year, after running two successful programmes together in 2022. We believe that Indirock is a place that everyone can enjoy, especially if the typical “gym” environment isn’t for them. It’s an amazing opportunity for us, working with Everyone Health, and we’re so pleased to see our love of climbing spreading to more people in Southend.”

“It was fun, relaxed and a good way to exercise without it feeling arduous.”

Indirock’s advice to newbies?

  • Don’t like heights? Try our traverse wall, where you’re never high off the ground.
  • Everyone was a beginner once – climbers love to encourage newbies, so don’t be shy!
  • There are many ways to complete a climb – trial and error is part of the journey.
  • Indirock is a friendly and accessible environment and welcomes a diverse and vibrant range of people, even if they just come for a coffee and healthy treat.
