Have you been inspired by climber Alex Honnold’s recent Skyscraper feat on Netflix? Or maybe the incredible talents on display in the Olympics bouldering, lead and speed climbing contests?
Well here’s your chance to experience a slice of that action at the IndiBlock Stars final, tying in with Indirock’s fourth birthday and Southend City Day. Guaranteed high vibes and good times!
Every year we like to shake it up a bit, and for this fourth edition of the IndiBlock Stars final we’re bringing you a whole afternoon of treats leading up to the competition finals that evening. There’s going to be fun climbing challenges all afternoon (fuelled by free Tenzing, who are sponsoring the event!), an Evolv climbing shoe demo, and we’re teaming up with some amazing local businesses, from merchandise to sports massage, retro games to sound healing!
Afternoon activities
Evolv climbing shoes will be joining us with a wide range of shoe models in all the sizes, giving you a chance to try before you buy, and pick up a handy 20% discount on the RRP while you’re at it! You’re welcome to climb in the shoes and there’s no obligation to buy if you don’t find the perfect pair for you.
Our cool new neighbours, Super Side Quest, will be joining us with some of their retro arcade games. Step back in time and compete in 4-player Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, followed by Streetfighter. We will also have new-game-on-the-block, Cairn, available for you all to try!
Feeling a bit achy after pushing hard this New Year? Why not relax with a seated massage from Lily Hewitt, Sports Therapist, who will be working out all those knots and tensions for you, on a pay-what-you-feel basis.
Fancy a quick reset before the high energy final kicks off that evening? Come and lay back on some bouldering mats in Indirock’s new treatment room, where we’ll be offering cute sound healing and reiki tasters throughout the afternoon, for groups of four at a time, with Zen Vibes Only and Louise on Earth. Also offered on a pay-what-you-feel basis – what’s not to love?!
We’ll be launching our exclusive new merchandise design that day, and may even be joined by another climbing brand with limited edition screen printed merch.
Evening extravaganza
And now for the best bit… From 4pm, our amazing team of routesetters will get to work setting eight competition-level blocs for our finals – four for our women and four for our male competitors. One of these will include exclusive “Burden of Dreams” replica holds from Core – 3D scanned from one of the hardest outdoor boulders in the world! The blocs will be top secret until the competition finals begins, and it becomes a ticketed event at this point – so make sure you grab your ticket for just £5 here!
While the routesetters are at work, we’ll head over to Indirock Coffee Shop where all attendees will receive a free slap-up dinner from our friends at Dub Kitchen. With a choice of Jerk chicken or vegan hot-pot, served with rice ‘n’ peas and coleslaw, you’ll be all set for the edge-of-your-seat action to come!
At around 5:30pm, it’ll be time for the competition finals to commence! We’ll be joined by DJ Cosmic, who will be spinning tunes from the middle of the climbing mats – the epicentre of the action! As always, the lights will be off and our climbers will be lit by spotlights, adding to the drama. You, our lovely audience, will be in amongst the climbers as they compete, dancing and cheering them on. Our MCs will commentate the event, so you’ll know what’s going on.
The prizes
And we almost forgot… there will be prizes too! As well as the incredible prize bundles going out to each of our competitors, we also have mega prizes up for grabs for anyone attending, whether or not you climb…
